Family style cook, with lots of flexibility, required at a private home in Châteauneuf de Grasse, South of France (near Cannes). Ideally from 10th July - 10th September, but some flexibility is OK on start and finish dates. Cooking for family and a few guests. Numbers will vary but from 1 - 14 people, and the cook should be flexible to any last minute changes or additions. The cook must be a driver, and happy to drive in France in the work vehicle provided (must have manual and automatic licence).
Breakfast, lunch, childrens tea and supper will be required (childrens tea only when the children are staying). Mediterranean fresh, healthy, local produce, making use of the vegetables and salad grown at the property as well as all the local fresh produce. Some meals are plated, but some are platter style - it is all family style though (not a formal chef required) - the style of meal depends on what is happening, and the client will go through menus with the cook a couple of days prior to each week. Breakfasts are croissants, fruit and cereals etc for them to help themselves to, lunches would be quiche/salad style lunch down by the pool usually (there is a kitchen by the pool), and children eat the same as the adults but have an earlier (and slightly simpler) supper around 5/6pm and then adults will eat later. Adults will sometimes want nibbles/canapes before dinner, and then two or three courses depending on who is there. The children are the clients grandchildren and they are young, under 6 years old.
Other staff in the house include a live in couple plus a daily cleaner. The couple assist at mealtimes with serving and clearing. The cook must be a driver and happy to drive the work vehicle to the shops to purchase all the food shopping. The cook will be responsible for shopping, menu planning, cooking, clearing up the kitchen and keeping the kitchen/fridges/cupboards clean and tidy. The cook will be given one day off a week (which will not be on a Monday or Tuesday and days will vary each week depending on what is happening).
It is very important the cook is family friendly, loves young children, and happy around dogs too as the client has dogs, the cook must be very flexible on timings, arrangements and other things going on in the house, should beeasy to have around and get on with everyone. The cook should enjoy going to the local butcher and fishmonger and picking up fresh and local produce. The client will discuss the menus with the cook, the cook needs to come up with ideas.
Interviews to take place on zoom/face time or in person in London depending on where the cook is based. Accommodation is provided on site next to the house - studio with bedroom and bathroom. Return travel covered. Essential the cook is happy to drive in France, really wants to work away for the summer in one location for a family and is highly flexible.
This job would be best suited to a capable good cook that enjoys cooking with fresh produce, loves making salads and platter style dishes look pretty, and is happy to muck in with a busy family summer.
