We are looking for a really good, lovely part time permanent cook based in the Cotswolds - near Kingham. Accommodation can be provided for someone who is not local, but the candidate must be a driver with a car and fully committed to a permanent part time role. 3 days a week - 7am-9pm (with flex to start or finish later if a special event or leaving early for something). Breaks in the day when time allows. Ideally this role will be based around three set days a week - most likely Monday to Wednesday but with flexibility to stand in at weekends if needed (with notice and if not booked on another job). The family want some flexible who is able to help out and do extra days or a weekend if and when needed and when availability allows, so if you are never able to work weekends, evenings etc please do not apply. This job will only suit someone really willing and flexible and used to private service.
It’s a fully staffed formal household. You will come into contact with the client and must be able to interact with them (confidence required) but must also know when to be discreet. Experience catering to last minute changes required.
Doing Bfast, lunch, Dinner for 2 principals - standard is high but this is not for a Michelin starred restaurant chef, more for a really good capable and passionate cook with refined presentation, that is able to do simple family food to more elaborate and classical dishes if required - absolutely everything must be made from scratch. In addition you will need to make cakes and cookies, and make jams and chutneys for the pantry.
Occasional extra guests/friends will visit, and this cook must be happy to cook for extra if required. The job won’t suit someone that is on a strict time frame - they need to be able to commit to the client fully on their days of work - must be someone able to utilise any free time productively and stay until the job is done. The clients both work so a lot of the time they’re not in the house for lunch, or just have something light like a salad.
Using garden and fresh, organic produce, seasonal menus essential and some classic recipes to be followed that they enjoy. Evening meal is not fancy cooking with foams etc - but modern style and lovely presentation - it’s good home cooking but done beautifully well. You will also need to keep kitchen clean and organised. They have staff to help front of house etc, but you need to be happy to help in all areas and need to be organised. It is important the cook is able to adapt to the clients requirements/tastes/requests and favoured classics if asked. Must be willing to help out when they have larger events and dinners etc with additional support provided. Some days will be quiet and some will be busier. This is a really wonderful opportunity to work in a beautiful part of the world in a lovely kitchen with access to the best possible produce. Live in or live out (a local person would be preferable but accommodation can be provided for the right person). Someone trained at Ballymaloe or similar would be ideal!
