A keen, creative and passionate junior cook is required for an UHNW household - to start ASAP - in the Cotswolds, near Chipping Norton. This role would be most suited to someone newly trained that is eager to work within the private households and learn off the experienced head chef, who you will working very closely with.
You will be working in a large private household as the 'second' cook to the main cook. There will be some days where you work alone and independently when she has her days off, so the cook needs to be skilled and capable enough to handle things on their own, and then happy to work alongside the main chef, and learn from her, when she is in. You will assist with cooking, washing up, cleaning and organising the kitchen, purchasing stock, helping with some food service (laying and clearing tables), working with the gardeners to use the seasonal produce, creating new menus and shopping.
The family is heavily passionate about low food miles, cooking and using local, and their own garden, produce - so the cook must enjoy cooking in this way - Ballymaloe style, modern, seasonal platters - the clients encourage the cooks to work closely with the gardeners to find out what they have in stock and use all the produce from the garden, then all other foods need to be sourced locally - no processed foods or food in plastic...
Two main principals in residence, the male principal travels alot. Sometimes just two people, but they will have their children and grandchildren, and friends, to visit, and in December they entertain a fair amount. There is a shoot at the Estate and there are some shoot days (guest days) so the cook must be comfortable cooking for shoots and cooking with game (under head chef guidance).
Lovely family to work for but changes can happen, and it is a fast paced household, so flexibility is required. The role is best suited to a cook who is passionate about cooking with fresh, seasonal garden and local produce, sourcing really good high quality ingredients, cooking everything from scratch, has a real farm to fork mentality and enjoys cooking in that way. You will have the opportunity to learn a huge amount, in a beautiful location.
This is a fully staffed household, and the ability to work well as a team is essential. Discretion is absolutely key around the principals, and a professional career cook is required, who is keen to get stuck in and respect their bosses!
Not fine dining, more informal style relaxed but really good, delicious food. Other staff at the home include the Head Chef, gardeners, housekeepers and Estate Manager.
Due to the rural location, a driver is preferred, with your own car to use for personal use/days off.
Days and hours: 5 days a week, to include working weekends - one weekend off a month. Hours will vary. When the family are not entertaining they tend to be 8.30a,-5pm, if they are entertaining or have guests then the days will be longer, with later finishes, and full flexibility is required to be open to this.
Holiday to be taken in line with the clients movements. No holiday can be taken in June or December, and this candidate needs to be available to work over Christmas. The clients go away at the end of December for two months, so it is a good opportunity for the candidate to take some time off then, and over other times of the year is allowed but not June or December or if they have a big event on - the candidate needs to be prepared to work around the family movements
Accommodation can be provided if not local (1 bed flat with no bills to pay or 2 bed cottage with garden and candidate pays electric and wifi only). Well behaved dogs may be considered, but the dog will not be able to come to work with you, it would need to stay at home.
Salary iro £will depend on experience and expectations. Payroll job with pension and holiday allowance.
