A permanent cook is required for a traditional Estate based near Moreton in Marsh.
Two main principals (in their 80s) to cook for on a day to day basis, during the shoot season (Oct - early Feb) it will get busier with regular let shoot days to cater for. Occasional weekend overnight stays in the house, where dinner parties will be required to be catered for. You will know the dates in advance, they are not last minute.
The candidate should be a good country style cook, happy to cook a variety of dishes using good ingredients and nice presentation, but must also be happy to make chutneys and jams with the produce from the garden. The cook should be happy to cook to the tastes and requirements of the clients. The cook must be clean, tidy and organised and able to keep the kitchen clean and ordered.
The cook should be a driver due to the rural location. The cook needs to be extremely flexible, and willing to muck in with a large private household - some days will be quieter than others and flexibility is needed. Basic hours are monday to sat 9-2 - some weeks will be very quiet with just two people to cook for, other weeks/days will be busier with various visitors, and it is important the cook can be flexible with hours and requirements.
The family are not looking for someone with stacks of private household experience, and they are looking for more of a 'cook' than a 'chef', but it is essential that the cook is passionate about food, able to cater for shoots and dinner parties as well as day to day family cooking, and happy to work hard and be flexible regarding the daily routine. This is a lovely, long term job in a lovely location for the right candidate. The clients live in a relatively formal way (with a butler serving the food), but the principal will be heavily involved with the cook planning menus.
The cooks main duties will be to menu plan (alongside the client), shop, cook and keep the kitchen, fridges, kitchen equipment, larder areas, completely organised and clean.
Days and hours tend to be: 6 days a week 9-2 - Sunday off Scotland 2-3 weeks required (August/Sept time) When it is a dinner party it is 9-11:30 in the evening
