A permanent live in Cook/Housekeeper, or couple, required for a Private Household near Stow on the Wold. With accommodation provided on site (2 bedroom cottage). Drivers are essential due to the rural location.
It is important to understand that the female principal is disabled from the waist down due to sustaining a spinal cord injury so will require a large amount of attention and help. She has carers in the mornings but the candidate will need to ensure she is safe, comfortable, happy, and assisted whenever needed. Someone kind, caring, trusting and discreet is really very important.
The cook/housekeeper must be a competent cook – good home cooked food is required and so it is important the candidate is passionate about cooking good food from scratch, and is good at it. The candidate will be required to help prepare breakfast, lunch and supper as well as house hold organisation and cleaning.
Should a couple apply, the other part of the couple will be required for driving/maintenance/groundskeeping duties. The property consists of 7 bedrooms. The main residents are a family of 4 – 2 adults and 2 children (at boarding school but return at weekends and holidays and it is busy when they come home).
There is also a swimming pool which needs to be looked after. The candidate needs to have a lot of initiative and a pro-active attitude – able to see what needs doing and get it done without being told.
Duties will include, but not limited to: Cook/Housekeeper:
• Keeping the female principal comfortable, happy and safe – this is the main priority
• Food/grocery shopping and keeping cupboards/fridges organised
• Cooking – family cooking but good food – bfast, lunch, dinner (during term time there are only 2 people to cook for plus any occasional guests)
• Dog walking/dog care – 3 dogs in the house so dog lover essential
• Household admin and assisting the female principal in her office and running any errands and tasks she requires
• Housekeeping – managing maintenance issues/contractors, receiving deliveries, running errands, tidying up and making sure the inside and outside of the property is always in good order/leaves swept at entrance etc.
• Cleaning – mopping, hoovering, dusting, laundry – washing, ironing and putting clothes away
• A really reliable, physically fit person fully capable and experienced from similar roles is essential
If coming as part of a couple, the other half of the couple will be responsible for driving, maintenance, swimming pool care, garden work, laying and lighting fires etc.
Days of work/Hours: Generally Monday to Friday day time hours, however it is important that the candidate/s is happy to work around one weekend a month, or is able to offer flexibility to work weekends/evenings when required by the clients (as with any private household, flexibility is essential)
There is a work vehicle available, but it is essential the candidate drives. If the candidate has their own car for personal use this is preferred.
Salary will depend on experience Accommodation is furnished, and no bills applicable. This is a live in position only, paid on a payroll with statutory holiday allowance. Pets may be considered in the accommodation, but no children.
