An experienced, practical and enthusiastic Groundsperson / Gardener is required to join the team at a beautiful private family home and estate situated between Cirencester and Burford in the Cotswolds.
This is a varied, hands-on role requiring someone who takes pride in maintaining the grounds and gardens to a high standard throughout the year. The successful candidate will become very much part of the wider household and estate team and should be equally comfortable undertaking routine grounds work, managing areas of the garden and responding to the day-to-day requirements of a busy private estate.
The role will involve working independently as well as alongside two subcontract gardeners who attend 2-3 days per week, together with an arborist and other specialist contractors when required.
Key responsibilities
• General maintenance and presentation of the estate grounds and gardens
• Grass cutting, mowing, edging and general lawn care
• Maintaining flower beds, borders and planted areas
• Hedge cutting, trimming and general pruning
• Leaf clearance and seasonal grounds maintenance
• Assisting with the management and maintenance of trees across the estate, working with the estate arborist where appropriate
• Managing and maintaining garden irrigation systems
• Greenhouse management and seasonal planting
• Growing and supplying fruit, vegetables and produce for the family
• Establishing and maintaining a cutting garden to provide seasonal flowers for the house
• Managing logs and firewood for the household
• Putting out and managing estate rubbish and recycling bins
• Maintaining outdoor and garden furniture, ensuring it is clean, well presented and put out for the summer season and properly stored and protected during the winter
• Keeping garden machinery, tools, working areas and stores clean, organised and well maintained
• Liaising and working effectively with subcontract gardeners, arborists and other contractors
• Assisting with other practical estate duties and ad hoc tasks as requested
The ideal candidate We are looking for someone who is hands-on, organised, reliable and self-motivated, with a genuine interest in gardens and estate maintenance. The successful candidate should have good practical gardening and groundskeeping experience and be confident using and maintaining the usual garden machinery and equipment. Experience with vegetable growing, greenhouses, irrigation systems, hedge cutting and general estate work would be particularly beneficial. You will need to be comfortable working as part of a wider household team and understand the standards, discretion and flexibility required when working within a private family home.
A full UK driving licence is required and own car to get to and from work.
