A permanent private cook is required for a private family based near Peterborough. There will also be occasions when the cook is asked to travel with the family to their other homes in North Wales and South Yorkshire, and the cook should be happy to do this. The main place of residence, however, is near Peterborough.
A nice family to work for and the current cook has been there since 2012 (so a good long time).
The clients are looking for someone who would like a country cook job with a family, and someone who would like to settle with a family for a good length of time (not just someone looking for a short stop gap). There is accommodation offered with the role and the family are open to cooks that may come with partners/pets/family.
It is important that the cook has a passion for cooking seasonally and to use all of the wonderful garden produce that is available. It is important the cook can work well with everything that is provided and should rarely need to buy any vegetables from a shop. They also have their own eggs and any produce supplied from the Estate should be used in the kitchen. The cook must also shop locally for any meat/fish that is not already in stock on the Estate. The family would like someone who is able to adapt to the clients needs and requirements. They are looking for more of a family style country cook as opposed to a fine dining chef with lots of ‘foams etc’.
The main family consists of 4 people, but there will be regular times of entertaining, and numbers can go up to 25 for weekends with guests or shoot weekends. It is important the cook is happy to cook game and meat for shooting parties and is adaptable. The cook will never do any service - their main job is producing all meals, doing the shopping/stock control and keeping the kitchen clean/in order and washing up kitchen items.
The cook usually has 1.5 days off a week, sometimes this can be more. The family know their plans in advance, so it is unlikely to change last minute other than the odd meal being a couple of extra, or couple less people. It is very important the cook is flexible and happy to work with the client with menus and the way they like things to be done. The cook should be able to get on with all the other household staff and will be required to cook for them as well. When they have particularly busy weekends or parties, then extra help will be provided with washing up/chopping etc.
The cook must drive and ideally have their own car for use in their own time and on their days off. During the working hours, there is a staff car that can be used for shopping/work purposes.
It is very important that this cook would enjoy working on an Estate in the countryside and is happy working outside of a city and in this type of environment. It is also important that they are happy to work in the other residences for approx 6-8 weeks of the year (Wales and South Yorkshire - both of which are rural).
A friendly, approachable and flexible attitude is important. Some previous experience in kitchens and/or private households is important, but the client is also happy with training someone into the way they like things, but they must have food knowledge and a passion for cooking with seasonal and fresh produce. The cook should be prepared to work at weekends. 5 weeks holiday offered per annum.

It is important the cook is available to start on 28th October to do a proper handover with the current cook.
