We are looking for a competent sous chef to work in a small kitchen at the top of the rock in Gibraltar. The restaurant is open during the day time only, and also holds private events (sometimes during the evenings) for weddings, corporate events and other celebrations.
Your head chef is exceptionally well trained and good at French cuisine and fine dining, having most recently worked at Le Gavroche so you have an opportunity to learn from him. The company are looking for someone to complement him, who perhaps excels with healthy cooking, Spanish or a more relaxed style of dining (Ottolenghi). Ideally you will be used to catering for large numbers and events as well. You should be pro-active, creative and have an excellent work ethic, as well as being a good team player.
You work a 5 day week and the restaurant is open Monday-Sunday, so you will be working at weekends but always have 2 days off a week. It is a 48 hour working week, but occasionally there may be more hours involved due to the nature of the business.
The business has just had a brand new bar and kitchen installed and they are looking to grow and excel, so this is an excellent opportunity for someone to work somewhere that is going to change and potentially look to gaining a Michelin Star.
It is ideal if you speak Spanish, but this is not essential. The head chef is English, as are some of the staff that work at the restaurant. Salary of up to £27,000, but it will depend on your experience to date. Travel is covered from the UK, but you will need to cover costs for your own accommodation. Reasonable apartments can be found in a nearby town for 500 Euros per month for 1 person living on their own.
